Ginny Says

“It seems VW have nailed some of the interior quality issues which have been criticised in the ID.3 and made an altogether more useful, SUV-shaped car with a proper range, plenty of space and decent performance. It sounds like it might be a real rival to the Tesla Model Y and the flood of other electric SUVs arriving in 2021.”

Nicki Says

“The ID.4 really seems to hit a sweet spot with its SUV style and practicality, and is a little easier to live with than an ID.3. But there are still some areas where it feels a bit compromised, especially on quality.”

Is the Volkswagen ID.4 electric?

Yes, the ID models are Volkswagen's pure-electric cars. Its hybrid models go by the names of GTE and e-hybrid while some of VW's high-performance R models come as plug-in hybrids, too.

How much is the Volkswagen ID.4?

Prices start at £32,150 for the ID.4 Life Pure with a 55kWh battery – this is the only model that is eligible for the Government's £2,500 Plug-in Car Grant subsidy. Prices top out at £55,540 for the GTX Max.

Does the ID.4 come with four-wheel drive?

Yes, some models do. For the time being, Volkswagen only offers four-wheel drive on the sporty ID.4 models which go by the name of GTX and GTX Max. All other ID.4s are rear-wheel drive

How long does it take to charge the ID.4?

The 52kWh cars take 8 hours 30 minutes for a full charge from a home wallbox, while the 77kWh models take 12 hours 15 minutes. Regardless of which battery you go for, both take around 30 minutes for 0-80% charge from a rapid charger.

What other ID models are there?

The number in the name denotes where the car sits in the ID range. So, the ID.4 is larger than the ID.3 hatchback and is positioned above it, while the soon-to-be-released ID.5 coupe SUV will be placed above the ID.4. There will be full range of ID models over the next few years with saloons, estate cars, vans and even more SUVs expected.
