Tom Says

“The e-C4 is another really useful, practical pure electric car that feels a little bit expensive when you compare it to its traditionally powered stablemates. But that doesn’t stop it being really very good at what it does. It’s a lovely place to spend time.”

Ginny Says

“I like the fact that Citroen has managed to build a sensible five-door hatch but give it a really stylish feel inside and out. The range is good and the driving experience is wonderfully relaxed. This would make a fine family car.”

Citroen e-C4 FAQs

Is it worth buying the e-C4 over its petrol or diesel relations?

It really depends on how you intend on using it, and who’s paying for it. Long term, and for shorter, local driving with the business paying the e-C4 will certainly offset its higher initial cost, but if you’re doing big miles then one of those internally combustion engine C4s might make more sense.

What’s the real-world range from that 50kW battery?

The WLTP figures officially say 217 miles, but, and it’s always a but with electric vehicles, that’s in perfect, lab conditions. Real world, in the cold, with the vagaries of traffic and suchlike, we wouldn’t expect to get much more than about 120-130 miles before we’d be looking for the opportunity to plug in.

Is the Citroen e-C4 comfortable?

Yes it is. Commendably, Citroen emphasises comfort over things like ‘sportiness’, for which you can usually read ‘uncomfortable’. There’s clever suspension that’s soft and pliant, while even the seats have multi-layered construction to make for a supremely comfortable drive. But it's not the revolution the adverts might make you believe and it's certainly not as squidgy on rough roads as a classic Citroen.

Could I tow with a e-C4?

You can, though a towbar is a cost option, and it’ll absolutely hammer the range if you pop a trailer, or worse, a caravan behind it. Use that towball for a bike rack to keep bikes off the roof, if, seemingly like everyone does these days, you need to take your bike with you everywhere.

Which trim level would you have?

We’ve suggested that the Shine Plus makes the most sense, as it’s not overly expensive in comparison to the Sense Plus and Shine it sits above, and does mean you’re not ticking options boxes. There’s a proviso, though; if you’re the sort of person who finds modern safety aids more distracting than useful, you might want to go for one of those lesser trims, which do without some of the more intrusive (physically, and aurally) active safety ‘aids’.
