Ginny Says

“We've been waiting for a compact family electric car with a sporting twist and finally we have it. I really like Cupra's design direction and I can see this appealing to GTI drivers looking to switch to electric. The interior has some nice touches too, which lift it above the ID.3 in my opinion.”

Nicki Says

“Now this is more my kind of car. A bit sporty, a bit mean and moody. I love a gadget and the boost button is a clever touch - especially when the road opens out in front of you or you need to get past the car in front. Cupra has done a great job with the Born - I think it'll be a big hit with buyers ”

I’ve never heard of Cupra. Is it a new car brand?
Not really. Cupra began life as a trim level with the SEAT range and always stuck on the brand’s sportier models. Recently, SEAT has separated Cupra as a separate brand and has enjoyed success with its first bespoke model, the Formentor SUV, which is available as a plug-in hybrid.

Isn’t this just a Volkswagen ID.3 with some different lights?

While it’s true that the Born is based on the ID.3, it doesn’t share any exterior panels and has a different interior. Although most of the hidden parts are the same; battery, motors etc, the Born has a different suspension set-up and is sportier to drive

How many seats will the Cupra Born have?

The 45kWh and 58kWh models will both have five seats, but the range-topping 77kWh model will only be available with four seats.

Will there be a four-wheel-drive model?

It’s unlikely. While it’s technically possible for the car’s underpinnings to accommodate an additional front motor, the cost of developing it means that the Born will be rear-wheel-drive throughout its production run.

What colours will it be available in?

Cupra will initially offer the Born in six colours, Aurora Blue, Glacial White, Rayleigh Red, Geyser Silver, Quasar Grey and Vapor Grey.

Will there be a cheaper SEAT version?

While the Born was originally shown as a SEAT in concept car form, we understand that Volkswagen is only planning a Cupra version. Bosses have confirmed that Cupra will become an electric-only brand by 2030 and announced that a smaller car is in the pipeline for 2025.
