This tiny Citroen is fantastically unconventional could potentially cost less per month than a mobile phone. It's just painfully slow on anything but urban roads.

Ginny Says

“This car seems to rip up the rule book and start again. Tiny in size and weight, less to buy than a phone and cheaper than walking. Sure you're not going to travel very far - or go very fast - in it, but just looking at makes me smile.”

Tom Says

“The Ami is a rubbish ‘car’, but an endlessly amusing alternative to an umbrella. Very specific, very limited, very lighthearted. Makes you happy for no reason.”

Is the Citroen Ami legal in the UK?

Yes, the Ami is legal to drive in the UK. In fact, you can watch Ginny driving one around Oxfordshire here.

Is the UK Citroen Ami right-hand drive?

No. Like the European-spec cars, the UK Ami is left-hand drive. However, given the tiny size of the Ami, it barely makes any difference on UK roads.

Can I drive a Citroen Ami when I'm 16?

I'm afraid not. It's just too heavy, so is classed as a heavy quadricycle rather than a light quadricycle in the eyes of the law. Unless you are in France - you can drive one there when you are 14. Or have been banned for drink driving.

How much will the Citroen Ami cost?

The UK Ami range starts from £7,695 for the entry-level model. Pop and Vibe versions add a little more kit and cost £8,495 and £8,895 respectively. Citroen also offers a neat Cargo version that does away with the passenger seat. It costs £7,795.

How can I charge a Citroen Ami and how far will it go?

The Ami has a cable and plug built in to the bodywork. UK cars can charge them wherever there's a standard socket. If you want to use a public charge point, there's another adaptor (which comes as standard) which uses a Type 2 connector. However, the Type 2 connector won't speed up the charge rate and you'll still only get 2kW. A full charge will take around three hours and will take you around 40-45 miles. That might not sound much, but that's two hours of driving in an Ami.
