Mazda has a long history building some of the world’s most interesting cars (and also some of the most boring) and its Mazda 3 and Mazda CX-5 SUV are its best-sellers in the UK. Perhaps its most famous car of all is the Mazda MX-5, which just happens to be the world’s best-selling sports car. Mazda has a different psychology when it comes to building cars compared to other car manufacturers and likes to use large petrol engines, sometimes of a ‘rotary’ type (it’s a bit complex to explain), which might explain why Mazda has been slow to latch onto electric cars. Its MX-30 small electric SUV is its first pure-electric car it has ever made and rivals the MINI Electric and MG ZS EV.
