Mazda’s has revealed prices and specifications for its first ever plug-in hybrid, the CX-60. And while there is some good news, the large SUV could narrowly miss out on crucial tax break for company car drivers.

The CX-60 is the firm’s most powerful car ever, and is designed to complete with rivals such as the BMW X3, Audi Q5 and Toyota RAV4. Prices range from £43,950 to £48,050. The new CX-60 combines a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with a 100kW electric motor and a 17.8kWh battery.

The CX-30 is Mazda's biggest and most expensive model

This delivers a total system output of 324bhp, making it the most powerful road car Mazda has ever produced. The official WLTP combined fuel consumption figure is 188mpg with combined CO2 emissions of 33g/km.

However, the official electric-only range is 39 miles, meaning the CX-60 will have a BiK tax rate for company car drivers of 12% for the 2022-2025 tax years. This is unfortunate – if the car could squeak out one more mile in the official tests, it would fall into the 8% bracket and save company car drivers hundreds every year. A Mazda spokesman said: "It’s certainly something that is being looked at. We will know more on BIK when we get to final homologation figures, which will be completed well ahead of the UK cars arriving in September."

The performance may be some consolation – the Mazda has a 0-62mph time of just 5.8 seconds.
