Tesla has opened up order banks for a new cheaper version of its Model Y. The Rear-Wheel Drive model costs £51,990 - £6,000 less than the previous entry point – but has to make do with a smaller battery, slower charging and one motor. Deliveries will start in December 2022.
The new Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive provides 283 miles of official range when wearing the standard 19” wheels and 267 on the optional 20” rims. That compares to 351 and 331 for the All-Wheel-Drive Long Range version.
The top speed is the same 135mph, but the 0-60 time stretches from 4.8fgg
Standard equipment includes Autopilot, Premium Interior (heated front and rear seats, heated steering wheel) and Premium Audio which includes 13 speakers, 1 subwoofer, 2 amps and immersive sound.
Similar to All-Wheel Drive and Performance variants, the front trunk and split-folding second-row seats provide a max cargo volume of 2158 litres. If you have more luggage to carry, Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive can also tow up to 1600kg.
First Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive for Europe are being built at our Gigafactory in Shanghai.
