I have an Auntie Dee. I recommend everyone gets one. My Auntie Dee likes her car, because of the freedom it gives her, but she has zero interest in what platform it's on, nor is she willing to debate the merits of a dual-clutch transmission. But on the flipside, she won’t consider a car because it’s red, or has a number plate that spells a cute name. She wants information, but only if it’s relevant to her, and she'd like it presented in a way that someone without an electrical engineering degree can understand.
If we're going to switch to an electric future, we need to get the right information out there to help my Auntie Dee buy an EV.
So Auntie Dee - this site is for you. And for everyone else like you.
When it comes to electric cars, the industry has done a terrific job of confusing the hell out of everyone. There are baffling acronyms all over the place and a host of new jargon to get your head around. Here at Electrifying.com we’re changing that with straight talking information and advice. Don’t understand a term? Head to our EV Dictionary where all will become clear. Confused by hybrids or smart metres? Then the Knowledge Hub is for you. After an entertaining read? Toms blog is always a good place to start.
That’s all the positive stuff. But the elephant in the room here is the fact that we’re in the midst of a global shutdown. Nobody knows what is going on because we’ve never done it before and we don’t know where to find the handbook.
What we do know is that the car industry is doing its utmost to help. For me, a ray of light over the past few weeks has been the way that so many automotive and motorsport companies have stepped up to help. It comes as no surprise to me; I love this industry because of the people involved in it. Designing, developing and building incredibly complex machinery is what these incredible people do day in, day out.
At the time of writing this, a group of British car makers (McLaren, Rolls Royce and Ford) along with a raft of UK based Formula One teams, like Red Bull Racing, are working together to build vital equipment that will help minimise the impact of the COVID-19. Jaguar Land Rover are using their 3D printing tech to make protective glasses for the NHS and on a more human level companies like Callum Designs and Aston Martin have released colouring sheets to help entertain kids (of all ages) during lock-down.
There’s hope ahead and maybe by the time you’re reading this, we’re coming out of the other side. New car decisions are not anyone's priority right now, but before too long the electric revolution will be back at full speed. So take this opportunity to do your research and arm yourself with all the information about our electrifying future.
Because once we’ve taken care of each other and found our way through these challenging times, the next thing we need to take care of is our planet.
