CUPRA is launching a new subscription service for its new Born electric hatchback. The sporting sub-brand of parent company SEAT is trialling the scheme with a three-month offer initially with prices starting from £699 a month, which works out at £174.50 per week.

The new service, which is a partnership between CUPRA, Volkswagen Financial Services UK and Wagonex, is offering a package that package includes the cost of the vehicle, insurance, roadside assistance, 24/7 Driverline support as well as any maintenance. After three months, all customers have to do is hand the vehicle back.

According to CUPRA, the scheme has been introduced to meet the needs of drivers who don’t want the commitment of a three or four year PCP or lease deal. The brand’s own research shows found that 61%* of people aged 18 to 34 are interested in accessing a car via subscription, similar to services such as Netflix or Apple TV+, where users can cancel anytime.

CUPRA is promising a simple online sign-up service where customers choose the exact spec of Born they want and select a delivery date. CUPRA confirms availability and arranges for vehicle delivery within 14 days of booking, subject to availability.

Electric car subscriptions are expected to be a growth market as the sector develops. Firms such as ONTO already offer a wide variety of models on monthly subscriptions with cars such as the Volkswagen ID.3 available for £619 per month.
