Smooth operator: SKODA prepares to launch new Enyaq Coupe

SKODA has teased the look of its not-so-secret new Enyaq Coupe ahead of its official unveiling at the end of the month. The newcomer is the first body variant to be developed from the Czech brand’s in-demand Enyaq SUV and is due to launch in the UK in the summer.

Despite its name, the Enyaq Coupe is effectively a standard Enyaq SUV with a different roofline. As a result, it retains the same five-door hatchback layout and practical cabin. The twin body approach is one that Audi has already introduced on its Q4 e-tron that can be specified in either SUV or Sportback forms.

SKODA claims that the smoother profile of the Enyaq Coupe is more aerodynamic and more efficient at cutting through the air. The newcomer has a drag coefficient of 0.234 which makes it more slippery than a low-slung Porsche 911 and smaller hatchbacks such as the Volkswagen Golf.

The Enyaq Coupe is also expected to be the first ŠKODA electric car to wear the brand’s sporty vRS badge. Although the firm has remained tight-lipped regarding its introduction, bosses confirmed that a sporting flagship model would join the Enyaq range in the second phase of the car’s introduction.

SKODA has confirmed that the standard Enyaq Coupe will be offered with two battery pack options; 58kWh and 77kWh and will be capable of returning 332 miles on the WLTP cycle. Based on early figures issued at the launch of the SUV version, the vRS will be offered with a twin motor set up and is tipped to produce 302bhp.

Like its SUV sibling, the Coupe will be equipped with rapid charging as standard, which means the smaller battery model can accept a DC charge at 120 kW, while the larger 77kWh model can be charged at 125 kW on a suitable charger.

More details and images will be revealed by SKODA at the car’s official unveiling on 31 January.
