Soon you’ll be able to show seven of your friends how good electric vehicles can be, thanks to the new, eight-seater Peugeot e-Traveller. The all new van-based people carrier is the first 100% electric eight seater and has a range of up to 143 miles from, a 50kWh battery.

Currently the biggest electric people carrier is the seven seat Nissan e-NV200 Evalia, which has a 124 mile range.

The e-Traveller shares its running gear with the Peugeot e-208 hatchback and several other electric cars and vans from Vauxhall and Citroen. It is available with two body lengths and multiple seating options to give the best compromise between seats and luggage.  The boot can be easily accessed through a separately-opening rear window, meaning the vast tailgate doesn’t need to be opened to add smaller items such as shopping. This will be a real boon in tight car parks.

If you are trading in an SUV, the e-Traveller will still help you to get off the beaten track with Grip Control, a reinforced drive system that adapts to different terrains. The driver can select, via a dial on the dashboard, a number of traction modes to help the car maintain grip in snow, sand or mud. Although it won’t be as good as a four-wheel-drive, it should help out when things get slippery.

The e-Traveller will go on sale later this year, with prices starting at around £32,000
