Nissan raises the roof with taller electric van

Nissan has topped its electric van – by adding a new, taller roof which increases load space by 90%.

The new e-NV200 XL Voltia is a factory-approved conversion of the familiar e-NV200 van and is designed to make life easier for ‘last-mile’ delivery companies. Besides increasing the load space, the taller roof allows drivers to stand inside the load compartment.

“Despite tougher emissions standards and restricted access in cities, demand for urban last-mile delivery isn’t slowing down. Businesses – large and small – need to remain competitive,” said Manuel Burdiel, General Manager Europe, LCV Sales and Business Development.

In addition to the taller roof, the new model also has an extension at the rear to give a load space of 8m3, allowing businesses to complete fewer trips on each delivery round. It is equipped with a 40kWh battery and an on-board CHAdeMO charger for rapid DC charging capability.

As it is a conversion, the XL is unlikely to be tested officially to get figures for the battery range, but the taller profile is going to hurt aerodynamics and shave a few miles off the e-NV200’s range. This is unlikely to make much of a difference in cities however.

The conversion will be carried out by Bevan Group, based in Wednesbury in the West Midlands. UK pricing has not yet been revealed.
