MG has announced prices for its newly revised ZS EV electric SUV. The cheapest model is now £28,495 after the government’s Plug-in Car Grant has been deducted, representing an increase of £2,400 over the outgoing car – but it gets a much bigger battery and more equipment.

The new model's 72kWh battery give the new car an official range of 273 miles, up from 44.5kWh and 163 miles.

In styling terms, the New MG ZS EV gets a new electric-only front end, with a blanked grille to improve aerodynamics and a new side-opening charging port. It also gets a redesigned rear bumper and new wheels.

The company has also announced that the ZS EV will be the first fully electric vehicle in the MG range to offer towing capability. A 500kg towing capacity means owners can now attach small trailers or fit a cycle carrier.

The entry level ZS will be the SE, priced at £28,495 (after PiCG) with automatic air conditioning, LED headlights, adaptive cruise control, push-button start, 360 degree parking camera, a 10.1-inch touchscreen with sat nav. The Trophy model, priced at £30,995 (after PiCG), adds a panoramic ‘Sky Roof’ and heated leatherette seats, along with roof rails, electric driver’s seat adjustment, rain-sensing wipers and wireless phone charging. Top of the ZS tree is the Trophy Connect, which adds iSMART with live services (weather, traffic and Amazon Prime). It’s priced at £31,495 after PiCG.

The ZS can now tow a small trailer or use a bike rack
