Upstart EV brand MG is gunning for the family and business driver with a new bargain-priced, all-electric estate with prices starting at  £24,495 after the Plug-In Car Grant - that's around £2,000 less than the cheapest Nissan Leaf or Renault Zoe

The MG5 is powered by a 154 bhp motor and a 52.2kWh battery pack, giving a claimed official range figure of 214 miles. That's more than the 40kW Leaf but behind the smaller Zoe. It can be charged from 0-80% in 50 minutes using a CCS connection, or a full charge at home using 7kW Type 2 fast charging takes around eight and a half hours.

The MG's real selling point is its boot, as there are currently no other pure EV estate cars on the market. With the rear seats up and load cover in place there are 464 litres of boot space (compared to 405 in a Leaf)  or with the load cover retracted that extends to 578 litres with the rear seats still in place. Dropping the seat back increases capacity to 1,456 litres - more than a Volvo XC40 SUV.

Like all MG models, MG5 EV also comes with a seven year/80,000-mile warranty.
