Maserati has revealed a new SUV, called Grecale, which joins the Levante in the Italian firm’s line-up.
Although being launched with powerful petrol engines, Maserati confirmed earlier this week that it would produce an electric version of all of its cars, including the Grecale.
Although details of the electric model are yet to be revealed, it will wear Folgore badging to keep it in line with the rest of the firm’s zero-emission range.
What we do know is that it’s scheduled to go on sale in 2023 with a 105kWh battery using 400V technology. Maserati also says that the Folgore will have ‘as much as 800Nm of torque’, which would result in some seriously quick acceleration.
That large battery size points towards a potential electric range of well over 300 miles. There are three combustion-engined versions going on sale this year, called GT, Modena and Trofeo. The GT and Modena models use a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with mild hybrid technology.
It’s likely that the Folgore model will boast four-wheel drive through a high-performance twin-motor set-up, though a lesser-powered single-motor, rear-wheel drive version is a possibility.
In the cabin, there’s a 12.3-inch infotainment display with a supporting screen measuring 8.8 inches underneath. It has full connectivity with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.
Full UK pricing and specification of the Maserati Grecale is expected closer to the model’s on-sale date later this year.
