Lexus moves to plug-in for big tax benefits

Lexus has revealed its new NX range, including the brand’s very first plug-in hybrid.

The NX 450h+ PHEV will rival cars like the Range Rover Evoque PHEV, BMW X1 and Volvo XC40 and produce an impressive 302bhp, combined with an electric only driving range of 40 miles and CO2 emissions below 40g/km.

These figures are crucial as it will mean the NX450+ will taxed at 7% benefit-in-kind for company car drivers in the 2021-22 tax year, compared to the 11% of most rivals. 

It features a four-cylinder 2.5-litre petrol engine and an 18.1kWh battery, making it the highest capacity in its class. Two motors give all-wheel drive and a combined output of 302bhp – enough to give a 0-62mph time of around six seconds.

Lexus claims the hybrid system is class-leadingly efficient, especially once the battery power has been exhausted. It says the NX is 20 per cent more efficient than competitor systems. 

Prices have not yet been announced, but the car will go on sale in later summer 2021. Like all Toyota and Lexus cars, the NX will be covered by a 10 year warranty, so long as you have it serviced at the company's official dealerships.
