Electric cars lead used car boom

The booming used car market and sky-high second-hand car prices will get a prime time slot on national television this evening.

Electrifying founder Ginny Buckley will be presenting a special report for ITV Tonight where she'll be exploring how demand for used cars has rocketed over the past 12 months, and why some second-hand motors are worth more than new cars.

In the programme, Ginny will be speaking to a raft of experts who will explain how shortages of new cars have led to a rush on used cars and values increasing. Among them will be Derren Martin from vehicle provenance and values specialists CAP HPI, who recently told Car Dealer Magazine used car prices had risen by more than 27 per cent overall in the last 12 months, and 2021 was the year 'of the electric car'.

Used electric cars were among the cars that rose most in value, with models like the Jaguar I-Pace and Nissan Leaf seeing price rises of around three per cent in December 2021 alone.

The programme's airing comes as the Tesla Model 3 was confirmed as December 2021's best-selling new car and the second most popular new car registered in all of 2021. Tune in to ITV Tonight at 7.30pm this evening, and check out our buyer's guide videos on the most popular models below.
