Electric 500 comes in under £20,000

Fiat has finally announced full pricing for its electric 500 - and it will start at under £20,000. There is a catch though, as the cheapest version will have a comparatively tiny 24kWh battery, and you’ll need an extra £3,500 to get the headline-grabbing 199 mile range version.

Smaller battery and less power means lower price

The 500 line up will be made up of three trim levels – Action, Passion and Icon. The entry-level Action is available as hatchback only and is fitted with a 94bhp motor and a 23.8kWh capacity, giving a range of 115 miles. It can be rapid charged at 50kW. 

This model will have to battle against the likes of SEAT's Mii, which is priced at £19,800 but has a 32.3kWh battery and 169 miles range.

Cabrio versions cost an extra £2,650

The mid-range Passion uses a 42kWh battery and a more powerful 117bhp motor too. It provides a range of 199 miles and also features faster 85kW rapid charging capability , so recharging the battery to 80% range takes 35 minutes. 

The top 500 Icon is treated to a new 10.25-inch ‘Cinerama’ touchscreen display, with integrated GPS and the infotainment system as well as prettier alloys and other bits of trim.

The cabrio is available from the Passion trim level up and costs an extra £2,650 on top of the hatchback price.
