Feel like you might have a breakdown? If you’re driving an electric or hybrid model made by Peugeot, Citroen, DS or Vauxhall then you won’t be left stranded for eight years or 100,000 miles.

The parent company of the brands, called Groupe PSA, has announced it is extending the ‘roadside assistance plan’ for its line-up of electrified cars so it’s in line with the vehicles’ battery warranty.

The cover is available on the Peugeot e-208 and 3008 SUV Hybrid, Vauxhall Corsa-e, Grandland X Hybrid and Hybrid4, the DS 3 Crossback E-Tense and DS 7 E-Tense 4x4 and Citroën C5 Aircross Hybrid.

The cover is generous by industry standards, with rivals such as Kia only offering a year and others giving three years. Nissan provides continuous RAC membership to owners, as long as the car is serviced at an official Nissan dealer.

Richard Dyson, Groupe PSA Parts & Service Director, said: “Electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles represent the fastest growing vehicle segment in the UK. With more buyers looking to make the switch, we hope this initiative will give first-time electric car buyers the peace of mind they’re looking for.”

Besides breakdowns, the PSA plan also covers running out of battery range. Electric vehicle owners will either be given a short charge at the roadside or will be recovered to the nearest suitable chargepoint.
