This is a Model 3 without the compromises of a saloon. It's more family friendly with a practical hatchback and SUV-shaped body. It's sure to be Tesla's most desired car.

“Forget colonies on Mars and missions to the Moon, the Elon Musk project we’re most excited about right now is the Model Y.  It’s currently the first compact electric crossover to hit the market and while rival cars will have arrived by the time it finally goes on sale next year, I don’t think they’ll match it for high-tech family style.”

Nicki Says

“Tesla has a knack of knowing what people want and they’re spot on with the Model Y.  We buy compact crossovers in droves and it’ll be a huge hit. Think of it as a family friendly version of the superb Model 3, with a 3.5 sec 0-60 time that will shake up the school run, a high-tech interior and that brilliant charging network to rely on.”

The Model Y isn’t on sale until at least late-2021 if not 2022. Don’t expect any used Ys for at least six months after that, unless they're being sold for a profit by specualtors.

Americans are already enjoying their Model Ys but we Brits will have to wait longer for our cars. It’s the Tesla way, sadly. Early indications are that the Model Y won’t arrive until late-2021 but it could even be 2022, and by then there will be a handful of rivals on the market. Despite this, the Model Y will be in high demand from those who have to have the latest Tesla, so prices will hold firm and early used cars could cost more than brand new ones. We’d expect the first Model Ys to hit the used market in any great number to be at least six months after deliveries begin, so expect a long wait.
