The ID.5 is a good-looking coupe version of the ID.4 SUV. The GTX version isn’t as sporty as promised, though, and rivals have a lot more performance.

Ginny Says

“I'm not sure I get the whole coupe SUV thing - you are paying more money for a less practical car. Still, the ID.5 does look pretty good and it still has a huge amount of space. ”

Nicki Says

“Volkswagen's sleeker version of the Passat - called the Arteon - is a really good looking car. The ID.5 isn't quite as drastic a transformation from the ID.4 but it's still a stylish alternative for anyone who doesn't want to go for a full SUV.”

What is the Volkswagen ID.5?

It's a coupe version of the ID.4 SUV. The GTX version we tried (in prototype form) is the sportiest model.

Is the ID.5 faster than the ID.4?

Only slightly. The mechanical parts are all the same as their equivalent ID.4 versions, but the ID.5 is slightly lighter and more aerodynamic.

Is the ID.5 more expensive than an ID.4?

Prices haven't been officially announced yet, but it's expected to be around £1,700 more expensive.

Does the ID.5 have less space than the ID.4?

Yes, the swooping roof cuts some of the boot room and space for taller passengers.

How much will it cost in the UK?

UK prices have yet to be confirmed, but we would estimate that the Multivan will start at around £50,000.

What's with the funky paint job?

Volkswagen is trying to string out the launch and get us to write about its car more than once. So it let us loose in a prototype, which it has covered in a funky camo livery to let everyone know that's it's not finished yet. We'll update the review when we get to try the finished car. But since it's the same as an ID.4 except for the roof, we can't imagine it'll change much.
