The eighth generation of Vauxhall Astra is more striking than ever both inside and out, but does its appeal go further than skin deep?

Ginny Says

“The new Astra looks great and the low tax of the PHEV will boost its appeal with company car drivers. But it's the full electric model which will really pique my interest.”

Nicki Says

“The Astra seems to do everything well and the figures stack up, but there's nothing revolutionary about this car at all - expect those funky looks. ”

Will there be a fully-electric version of the Vauxhall Astra?

Yes, there will be eventually a fully-electric Astra-e version in both five-door hatchback and Sports Tourer estate forms in 2023. Vauxhall has yet to state the battery size or range though.

Is there just this single, 180bhp plug-in hybrid Astra?

At launch yes, although a sportier 225bhp plug-in hybrid will join the range late on in 2022, matching the line-up of its Peugeot 308 sister car.

What is the electric range and emissions of the Vauxhall Astra 180bhp PHEV?

It varies slightly from model to model, but the all-electric range starts from 43 miles and the emissions begin at 24g/km. Differences in the way that PHEVs are measured for their efficiency measurements account for the on-paper improvement over the mechanically-identical Peugeot 308. Vauxhall also quotes a real-world 37 mile range too.

Which versions of the Vauxhall Astra PHEV are available?

This 180bhp plug-in hybrid model only comes in GS Line or Ultimate spec, with no entry-level Design models available. The PHEV will also be available in 225bhp later this year.

How much will the Vauxhall Astra PHEV cost and when will first deliveries happen?

Prices for the Astra PHEV start from £32,200 for the GS Line up to the £35,315 Ultimate. The first cars will be delivered to customers in late May.

And what about the Sports Tourer estate?

There will be PHEV versions of the Sports Tourer estate – and also fully-electric versions eventually too – with order books for that opening in March and deliveries in summer 2022.
