Pricing
With prices kicking off at just under £36,600, the MINI Countryman Cooper SE Plug-In Hybrid isn’t a cheap way to get around. And that’s before you start piling on MINI’s extensive options to truly make the car your own. If you’re not careful with options box ticking you can be looking at a hefty bill.
However, while there are cheaper PHEVs out there, few come with the quality, charm, or image that the MINI gets you. You get what you pay for in this case…
Running costs
The headline figure of 166mpg fuel economy isn’t to be sniffed at. The MINI’s claimed frugality means you’ll be able to bumble round the country barely filling the tank – a huge bonus compared to the more traditional MINI Countrymans that eat fuel at a greater rate.
If you remember to keep its battery charged, and your commute is less than 38 miles a day (most are), you’ll find yourself avoiding the pumps altogether, only needing to fuel up for longer trips. If you don’t keep the battery charged, though, you’ll be paying to lug around a bunch of heavy electric gear.
Company car drivers will do well to switch to the PHEV MINI, at just 12% there’s plenty of savings to be made on the tax you'll end up paying.
