The facelifted MG5 brings a little more glamour and technology to an already great package. It no longer looks such a bargain though.

Tom Says

“The MG5 is a really interesting car. It's not exciting to drive or look at, but it does a really good job of being practical and useful at a price which undercuts everything else. I really respect that.”

Ginny Says

“MG has been listening to its customers and improved the tech on this new model, as well as making it more interesting to look at. But it still remains relaxing to drive.”

When does the new MG5 arrive in the UK?

MG are being very coy about this, presumably because they have stocks of the old car to sell. But we've heard October 2022 is the likely launch date.

Will the new MG5 be more expensive?

Yes, inevitably. The old 5 was around £27,000 but the new model has risen by £1,300 for SE and £1,500 for Trophy, plus the government grant has disappeared. That means the new model starts at a fiver under £31,000.

How long does it take to charge the MG5?

The MG5 can be charged at a wallbox charger with a Type 2 cable or at a fast-charger using a CCS cable. Plug in at home from a 7kW wallbox and a full charge will take eight and a half hours, while a 0-80% top-up from a fast-charger at a supermarket car park will take 50 minutes.

What are the main improvements on the new MG5 EV?

The biggest change is the more modern look inside and out, but it also gets the much-needed app and connectivity from the ZS EV and that car's smaller battery option too.

Does the new MG5 still look like it's wearing the wrong wheels?

Yes, it still does look a little bit strange, and as though it's on tip toes. The plus side is that it rides over bumps really smoothly.
