The plug in hybrid version of the Defender is the most capable and arguably the best to drive. But there are compromises and it doesn't have the dramatic tax advantages of rivals.

Nicki Says

“I love a big family SUV, and the Defender is the real deal rather than a wannabe with off-roader looks but no hardware to back it up. The towing capacity is lower but should still be enough for most people, but the lack of a seven seat option is a real shame.”

Tom Says

“Maximum capability and some measure of electric-only running? Yup, the plug-in Defender manages. But the tax breaks mean some other SUV PHEVs make more sense. I’m not sure I care, because I like the Defender. But you might.”

What engine does the Land Rover Defender P400e PHEV use?

It uses a two-litre four cylinder and an electric motor, fed through an eight-speed auto gearbox.

What is the towing capacity of the Land Rover Defender P400e PHEV?

It's 3000kg, which is at least 500kg less than the diesel. Apparently it's due to the strain the extra torque puts on the gearbox.

How many seats does the Land Rover Defender P400e PHEV have?

Five or six as an option, with a small 'jump' seat across the front of the car to create two rows of three. There is no option to have three rows of seats as the battery takes up too much room

Can you get a Land Rover Defender P400e PHEV as a short-wheelbase 90?

No, it is only available with the longer 110, five door body.

Is the Land Rover Defender P400e PHEV a good company car?

It will certainly cost you less in company car tax than a petrol or diesel version. But there are rivals (and commercial versions of the Defender) which are even more tax efficient.
