The Renegade 4xe (pronounced ‘four by e’) has a petrol engine at the front, an 11.4kWh battery in the middle and an electric motor at the back making it four-wheel drive. The battery is charged by plugging it into a wallbox or a domestic socket or by using the petrol engine.

Jeep claims the Renegade 4xe can travel 26 miles in pure electric mode. We found this to be pretty accurate on a summer’s day but around 20 miles is a realistic average figure.

If you’re a company car driver then the 4xe PHEV is the best option in the Renegade range because it falls into the 12% benefit-in-kind bracket. Some rivals like the Renault Captur E-TECH are in the 10% category so are even cheaper.
