BMW was founded in 1916 but didn’t build its first car until 1928 after acquiring the rights to recreate the British Austin 7. Since then it’s become one of the largest makers of premium cars in the world and its 1, 3 and 5 Series, X3 and X5 models being some of its best-selling cars in the UK. BMW became an early pioneer of electric cars in the early-2010s with its electric BMW i3 and plug-in hybrid i8 supercar, but has since returned to the EV world as of 2021 with the iX3 SUV and plug-in hybrid versions of the 3 Series, 5 Series, X3, X5. It’ll be launching its first bespoke electric SUV, the iX, in 2021 and bringing the Tesla Model 3-rivalling BMW i4 to market too. BMW also owns the British brand MINI.
