Jeep Grand Cherokee specs scupper cheap BIK plans

Jeep has announced prices and specs for its new Grand Cherokee 4xe Plug-In Hybrid.

Customers can choose between the Limited 4xe, Trailhawk 4xe, Overland 4xe and Summit Reserve 4xe models, ranging in price from £69,900 to £82,900.

The 4xe (PHEV) uses a 17kWh battery to give a 30 mile electric-only range, and CO2 figure of 66g/km. Although this will allow many drivers to commute on electric power only, the high figures will disappoint drivers who want to run the Jeep as a company car, as it will only qualify for an 18% benefit-in-kind tax rate.

That’s better than the 37% for petrol and diesel versions but will cost drivers thousands more every year than rivals such as the BMW X5 PHEV which qualifies for an 8% rate. It does beat the 20% rate for the Land Rover Defender PHEV, however.

The Jeep 4xe’s system delivers 376bhp and 637 Nm torque from a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. The 17kWh battery is mounted underneath the vehicle, packaged under the floor and protected by a series of skid plates. The car has a 2,300 kg maximum towing capability.

The first cars will arrive in the UK in January 2023.
